Wildcats Strike First in Valdosta, Turn Focus Toward Senior Night Showdown

Poole’s two explosive touchdowns highlight Camden County’s effort against undefeated Lowndes

VALDOSTA, Ga. — The Camden County Wildcats opened Region 1-7A competition Friday night with an early statement against undefeated Lowndes, striking first in a rain-soaked matchup at Martin Stadium before the Vikings rallied to secure a 50–13 victory.

Facing a challenging road environment and wet playing conditions, Camden County capitalized on an early special teams opportunity to seize a 7–0 advantage. Sophomore running back Malakhi Poole delivered two explosive touchdown runs, providing the offensive highlights for a Wildcats squad competing in its first region contest under head coach Tucker Pruitt.

The loss moved Camden County to 4–3 overall and 0–1 in region play, while Lowndes improved to 7–0.

Although the final score reflected a difficult evening, Camden’s early momentum, individual performances, and continued effort provided important moments as the Wildcats prepare for the remainder of their region schedule.

Wildcats Deliver the First Punch

Camden County wasted little time making its presence felt Friday night.

With rain falling across Martin Stadium, an early Lowndes punt attempt unraveled following a bad snap and disrupted kick, creating an opportunity for the Wildcats to establish momentum.

Camden took advantage on its ensuing possession.

Sophomore running back Malakhi Poole broke free for the first of his two long touchdown runs, putting the Wildcats on the scoreboard first. The successful extra point gave Camden a 7–0 lead and an encouraging start against an opponent that entered the evening undefeated.

The sequence showcased Camden’s ability to capitalize on a special teams opportunity and turn it into immediate offensive production.

Lowndes responded with 15 unanswered points to take a 15–7 advantage into the second quarter, but the Wildcats had already demonstrated their ability to create explosive plays.

Poole Shines Despite Difficult Conditions

As the rain continued, Poole remained Camden County’s most dangerous offensive weapon.

The sophomore delivered another long touchdown run during the second quarter, giving the Wildcats their second score of the evening and keeping Camden within striking distance before halftime.

Poole finished with 136 rushing yards on just 11 carries and two touchdowns, averaging an impressive 12.4 yards per attempt. His longest run covered 68 yards, and both touchdowns came on explosive runs that showcased his speed and ability to break into the open field.

Of Camden’s 155 rushing yards, Poole accounted for nearly 88 percent of the total.

Senior quarterback Xavier Collins completed four of seven passes for 32 yards without an interception, while junior running back Jakavious Perkins contributed 31 rushing yards on eight carries.

Senior wide receiver Sean Green added an 11-yard reception as Camden worked to complement its ground attack.

The Wildcats finished with 187 yards of total offense, including 155 rushing yards.

Despite Camden’s ability to generate explosive scoring plays, sustaining offensive drives proved difficult against the Vikings’ defense.

Lowndes continued answering offensively and carried a 29–13 advantage into halftime.

Wildcats Battle Through a Challenging Second Half

Following halftime, the rain briefly subsided, providing a temporary break from the wet conditions that had accompanied much of the first half.

Camden County entered the third quarter looking to build upon its two first-half touchdowns and work its way back into the contest.

However, Lowndes continued finding success on the ground, extending its advantage with 14 third-quarter points.

The Wildcats struggled to establish consistent offensive production after halftime, while the Vikings’ rushing attack continued creating challenges for Camden’s defense.

Lowndes finished the evening with 475 rushing yards, a decisive factor in the outcome.

As rain returned during the fourth quarter, the Vikings added another touchdown to complete the 50–13 victory.

While Camden was held scoreless in the second half, the Wildcats continued competing through the final whistle.

Defensive Wildcats Make Their Presence Felt

Despite facing a productive Lowndes offense, several Camden County defenders delivered notable individual performances.

Senior defensive back Maliek Patterson led the Wildcats with 10 total tackles, including seven solo stops, while also recording an interception.

Senior defensive back Micah Jones added eight tackles, including four solo stops, providing another active presence in the secondary.

Junior linebacker E’lijah Roberson contributed six tackles and forced a fumble, creating another opportunity for Camden’s defense.

Senior defensive lineman Ryder Wheeler also recorded six tackles while helping anchor the Wildcats’ defensive front.

Camden County finished with 71 total tackles, including 42 solo stops.

Although the Vikings’ rushing attack presented significant challenges, the individual contributions of Camden’s defenders highlighted the continued effort and determination displayed throughout the contest.

Lessons From the Region Opener

Friday night’s matchup served as an early test of Camden County’s ability to compete against one of the region’s undefeated opponents.

The Wildcats demonstrated the ability to create momentum through special teams, capitalize on scoring opportunities, and generate explosive offensive plays.

Poole’s two touchdown runs reinforced the playmaking potential within Camden’s offense, while Patterson’s interception and Roberson’s forced fumble highlighted the Wildcats’ ability to create defensive opportunities.

At the same time, the contest exposed areas requiring improvement as region competition continues.

Limiting explosive rushing plays, establishing more consistent offensive drives, and maintaining execution throughout all four quarters will be important as Camden moves forward.

For Pruitt and his coaching staff, the opening region matchup provides another opportunity to evaluate the team’s progress and prepare for the challenges ahead.

With three regular-season games remaining, the Wildcats still have opportunities to shape the direction of their season.

Looking Ahead: Senior Night and Pink Out at Chris Gilman Stadium

The Wildcats now turn their attention toward a return to Chris Gilman Stadium, where Camden County will host the Richmond Hill Wildcats in another important Region 1-7A matchup.

Friday night’s contest will be particularly meaningful as Camden celebrates Senior Night and Pink Out, recognizing the contributions of its senior class while joining together in support of breast cancer awareness.

For Camden’s seniors, the evening represents an opportunity to be honored for their dedication, leadership, and commitment to the Wildcats football program.

It also provides an opportunity to respond following a difficult road loss and defend their home field in front of Wildcat Nation.

The Wildcats will look to build upon the explosive offensive performances of Malakhi Poole, the leadership of senior quarterback Xavier Collins, and the defensive contributions of players such as Maliek Patterson, Micah Jones, E’lijah Roberson, and Ryder Wheeler.

With region competition underway, each remaining matchup carries increased importance as Camden continues pursuing its postseason goals.

Friday night’s trip to Valdosta did not produce the result Camden County wanted, but the Wildcats now have an opportunity to respond where they are most comfortable — under the lights at Chris Gilman Stadium.
